Large UK International Airport

Project Background

Mantra Services has completed a number of topographical and utility surveys at a UK International Airport.

This multiple project commission included temporary contractors’ compounds and site set ups, a “front of house” Express Set Down project, the Valet Parking area, the Car Rental Village and several Car Park developments.

In total these projects saw Mantra Services provide topographical and utility survey information for over twenty thousand square metres of the facility.

Project Challenges and Our Response.

A live operational airport has significant challenges including; working air side with strict security compliance processes and limitations, the high volumes of heavy plant, operational vehicle movement and staff, the large and continual flow of public vehicles or pedestrian movement and the critical operational nature of the existing services and infrastructure being surveyed. Having completed similar types of survey on two other large UK International airports, our project leads, and all survey personnel were fully conversant with the constraints encountered working within these operationally critical, high security, heavily trafficked and crowded environments.

From the outset of the appointment Mantra Services worked closely with the client and Airport stakeholders to develop a survey plan and process which fully complied with the air-side security and access limitations. Through a stakeholder engagement communication process, a plan was developed to ensure full consideration of the traffic and pedestrian management requirements for each of the individual survey areas. Once agreed, the plan was implemented and continually reviewed with the stakeholders to consider and provide mitigation to accommodate any emergency or operational impacts to the programme.
