Greater London Town Centre

Project Background

Over recent years Mantra Services has been commissioned to undertake full utility surveys across two large areas of Hayes town centre in Middlesex.

The initial survey covered several main thoroughfares and pedestrianised areas of the town for a planned £6 million redevelopment and traffic calming scheme.

Upon completion of the first phase of the development, Mantra Services were again commissioned to undertake the same works for the second phase of the re-development of Hayes. The additional survey area was directly tied into our previous work and consisted of a continuation of one of the main routes into the town and the area around the station, which was also under re-construction for Crossrail along with adjacent streets.

Project Challenges and Our Response.
A busy town centre with 24-hour activity, Hayes had many challenges, with the most significant being the high volume of traffic and pedestrian footfall for long periods throughout the day and late into the night.

Mantra Services were responsible for the full traffic management planning, co-ordination and permits required to complete the survey within the designated timescales. As well as night shifts during quiet times and planned traffic and pedestrian management, a vehicle mounted, high density GPR array for capturing data in the carriageways was used to minimise costs in terms of surveyor man hours, traffic management time and to greatly reduce the health and safety risks to the workforce and general public.

Mantra have a great deal of experience undertaking projects of all sizes in highways and heavily trafficked areas throughout the UK.
